Well, I'm now running a 6040, so not exactly stellar points wise, but better than the 6701:
TPF: 15 min 43 s
PPD: 7445
This is really just an experiment for the mpb - Once I decide on which SSD to get it will become my main home machine.
What is slightly concerning is that the CPU is at 85 C, but the heatsink temperatures are at 45 and 46 C. That really does suggest that the thermal paste isn't doing it's job of letting the heat move to the heatsink.
I'm trying to resist the urge to redo it with some AS5 to see if I can drop the CPU temp, but for normal (non folding!) use I can't see it being a problem.
hmm. do we have any numbers for other machines folding the same units? i would like to see how it stacks up to an i7 920 at stock speeds.

6am wake up + shower
6:45am leave to commute to work (AT&T store close by)
7:30 join line
8:30 realize I have a 10am meeting at work (panic starts)
8:45 32gb sold out
9:30 finally made it inside
9:45 finally get a rep
9:46 fed ex guy walks in (I smelled the 32gb)
9:53 out the door with a 32gb (I wanted to yell "get to dah chopper!)
10:06 casually walked into the scheduled meeting

Its great that Apple are still updating Java... however, no news regarding Java 7... Hoping that Java 7 doesn't appear too long after official releases on other platforms.
Oracle announced Java 7 for Summer Java 8 12 to 18 months later. They are generally moving the JVM to better support languages other than Java, including support for functions as first-class objects among other improvements.

Yes, everybody would like to know more, but what's another month?
I've already decided that unless by some miracle FCP X can really replace my FCP 7 workflow straight out of the box in June (highly unlikely), I'm not buying it until it truly can, even if it's only $300. I'm sure the post houses feel the same way...Its a no brainer for me. Ill buy it so I can at least start at ground floor. It wont take me away from Avid/FCP at work but I will at least have a head-start in case the school I teach at gets it for Fall classes.
Now as far as dropping it into a real world workflow, Id wait a bit.
Ive learned to not get caught up on the hype thanks to companies such as Adobe :P
Ill let the million plus beta-testers deal with it before I move to another CS blah blah blah :P

You need to start your own rental service and recoup some of those gaming funds; you'll probably turn a profit in a week's time with all the games you've been getting lately mate. ;)
I would do, But nobody would rent some of the crap I buy :D :(

...or is the existance of multiple versions just a means of generating revenue?
How could you ever suggest such a thing! For shame!
( ;) )
I think that the difference between the different versions of Pokemon is that each version has a few of it's own 'exclusive' Pokemon monsters. So you need to 'trade' them with gamers who have the other version to complete the set.

The new one has some improvements in internal layout, cooling, and expandability.
If you do not plan on upgrading the machines while you own them -- then buying on cost alone shouldn't be much of a problem during ownership, since performance is similar.
However, if you plan on doing a lot of heavy optical burning (or see the need to keep optical up-to-date or need more than one), if you see the need a bunch of HDs, or you plan on keeping the CPU up-to-date -- then the newer one may make a little more sense.

just tried and it didn't work. ipad keeps saying cellular data needs to be activated.
*just read in another thread that you have to change the apn. I didn't know that and try it. But someone else said it works fine.
I just posted in this thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1110889 that I don't see a way in the iPad 2 to change the APN settings. Not sure if that is new to iOS 4.3 or iPad 2, but I can't find it. Are you able to change the APN settings on the iPad 2?

for that sound input, go to systempreferences>sound
go to the input option and see if anything comes up when you plug it in.
and for the itunes problem, you may want to type 'top' (no quotes) into a terminal and see what's eating up your processor.

Recently I've been having major problems with my Airport (PowerBook G4) -- a lot of stalls and stops when opening even the most basic webpages. Does anyone here have any idea why this is happening?
Are there other wireless networks in the area of yours? Perhaps they are causing interference. Do you live in an apartment or house? What room of your apartment/house are you in with regard to where the airport is located?
Interference Robustness is supposed to help your airport card deal with interference (but shortens your range). My first impression is that something (or someone) is causing interference. Check and see if you pick up any other wireless networks when you go to connect to yours.
I don't own an Airport base station, but I would guess it has similar features to most other routers (firewall, mac filtering etc) - you may wish to play around with its settings (specifically anything related to 'channels') with regard to interference issues and other wireless networks.
Just some ideas.

There are also G4 optimized builds of Camino here (http://www.rpm-mozilla.org.uk/index.html). A 1.33GHz G4 iBook would use the "7450" build.

Official Apple anything is expensive.
Never buy memory/HDD upgrades etc. from Apple, that logo on the box will add about 75% to the real price.

There were only two or three simulations worth 1700 points and they're not PS3 WUs. A C2D can handle one of the big mothers in a little over a day. The PS3 is currenlty chomping on some ~300 pt WUs that take between 6-8 hours to wrap up.My C2D at work is taking 25 hours for a WU that is only worth 186, this is per core. So the PS3 is way more powerfull, but what do you want with 7 cores, each 3.2 GHZ and working together on one WU.

Hi guys,
Tried to do a search, but couldn't find anything.
I want to extend my bluetooth range on an iMac in order to use peripherals in the next room.
Not very tech savvy wrt opening up the Mac and soldering on a new antenna. Are there any other options?
Thanks so much! :)
