Try a Thinkpad T-series. Best-built for the money, with user-replaceable parts (try finding that on most machines today), and a keyboard that puts all others to shame.
Agreed. In fact, IBM/Lenovo and Apple have historically been the only companies that could build a laptop that survive a year or more in my loving care xD
Looking back, every Apple laptop I've owned since my PB1400, barring one of the two 12" AlBooks that just got dropped one too many times still works. The same can be said of my T20, T30, and the cheap Lenovo N200 I bought when I thought I wouldn't be able to afford the MacBook I'm using now.
In the same time, I've killed Dells, Sonys, various MSI and Mitac machines badged as unheardof manufacturers, so YMMV, but I'll stick to Apple and Lenovo. Sonys tend to feel just as flimsy as all the others IMHO, but maybe I've only had the misfortune to meet their lower end machines.

Ok, as of today there are no iPod minis at Circuit City or Sharper Image (at least here in Phoenix anyway) and I had found one on PowerMax's website, but they were already sold out of them before I could order one. I had started a deal with another member here, but his unit needed the battery replaced and couldn't have it done and sent to me before next Thursday (that's when I need it). So that said, is there anyone else here who would like to sell me their iPod mini (any color)? If there are any takers, I can send you money via PayPal today if you can ship it today or tomorrow.

TRIM enabler is a hack, and some people have reported that their read/write speeds have dropped significantly after installing it on their macs. I'm worried that it even does the job, but I am guessing it just changes the kernel so that instead of saying 'No' it says 'Yes' under TRIM support in SERIAL-ATA.
It's not just changing the No to a Yes. You can confirm TRIM is working by using hfsdebug and dd, with and without the patch. The beachballs people get could be due to an over aggressive use of TRIM by the current kext's, guess we'll find out sooner or later.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but...
If you simply see the 'Connect to iTunes' with a USB plug and the iTunes icon, its more than likely that she had the option to 'erase content after 10 failed passcode attempts' checked when she set up her passcode. By entering the code so many times she may have inadvertently deleted the pics herself... along with everything else.
I hope this isn't the case and that she does get her photos back but if you connect it to iTunes and the only option is to restore there may not be anything left on the phone already...

I don't know how accurate this is, I'm not saying that its upscaling the DVDs but I am getting 1080p thru component. My TV will show me the resolution at the press of a button and when it changes. The Xbox is 1080p and when I place a DVD in the drive and play it, it does not (any longer) change down to 480p.

That said, the issue at hand is the DVD Consortium's rules on upscaling. They typically don't allow it over component... most upscaling players HAVE to use HDMI. It's a stupid rule, seeing as you can rip DVDs with complete impunity and then software scale them to any resolution you want (and they MUST know that), and it doesn't effect anything, but that's the general rule.

So my 2007 Xbox 360 decided to konk out on me today. It turns on and it makes the booting noise, but alas I just have a black screen (yes I've check cables). Fine, ***** happens. So I go to Best Buy to pick up the 4gb 360 slim. Low and behold they don't have it, all they have is the stupid 4gb Kinect bundles or the 250gb holiday bundle. They have stacks upon stacks of these goddamn bundles, but no stand-alone 4gb systems. Next stop, Target. Same story there, Kinect and holiday bundles galore, but no stand-alone systems. Next stop Wal-Mart, same story. Next Stop Meijer, same stupid story. Finally I go to Gamestop, and guess what only Kinect and Holiday bundles.
To say that I am pissed right now is a major understatement. Why do they have to stock all of these stupid *********g bundles? No one wants the damn things. Why can't they just stock more stand-alone systems? Maybe it's not the fault of the stores, maybe this is Microsoft's falut, because they won't make enough stand-alone systems. If that is the case, why do they have to be so stupid????

has your 7800GT got a dual slot cooler on it? the Quadro does (its the same cooler as the pc 7900GTX had) and also the same as the pc 7800GTX.. i think the 7800gt had that sheity single half lenth cooler on it. if thats the case, just grab a aftermarket cooler and be done with it.
seriously stay away from that 6600le its a piece of junk...
then again, if you dont play any games at all, nor use the gpu then sure i huess why not, go for the 6600...

Nope, none at all. Only thing unexpected is sales tax, makes each song charge like $1.07 or something, depending on where you live...
btw, if any site charges you a fee like that, without telling you, contact your credit card fraud department-- you shouldn't be liable for the charge, and their guys will track it down for you.

I took a 1TB external (the small form factor model from WD), created two partitions on it, then installed Lion on one of the two partitions. It runs remarkably well, albeit just a tad slow in some aspects, but I have no major issues and it even goes to sleep! I was unable to install iStat Menus 2 (the last free version), some of the previously-installed apps from the Mac App Store (installed on my internal HDD), or use iProxy, but I really, really like Lion and can't wait for it to be released.
I ran Geekbench and, while I didn't expect a great score, only scored 3661 on a late-2008 MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6 GB RAM). I'll just put that down to Lion being installed on an external USB2 device.
One thing I really liked was that when you download an app from the Mac App Store, instead of the app being installed in your dock, Launchpad is invoked and the app gets "installed" there.
